Thanks for this post as I'm a self declared lover of odd and unusual Christmas songs - as well as all the old favourites. I blame it on Roger Scott playing Springsteen's 'Santa Claus is coming to town' on Capital Radio! If it hadn't been for this obsession, I'd never have discovered 'It Might Be Xmas' - a collection of TMBG pastiche by Paul and Storm, or Bob Dylan's 'Must Be Santa'.
One year I managed to avoid all of the Christmas music and then spent Christmas morning playing all of the songs I actually like and that worked well, very much for the reasons you describe.
I agree -- I like Last Christmas, and I have the original in my Christmas song playlist. (so it doesn't even count for Whamhunter)

No Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End)?! 10/10 on the playlists though, I love finding new Christmas music 🎄
