NIRVANA is here! Tales from Roundworld is back! All in time for Christmas
Hello there.
Two newsletters in a month? What madness is this? Alas, this one is less entertainingly newsy and more sort of … grabby? I don’t know. I’m not good at this sort of thing. Anyway … Christmas is nearly here, and as a working author who lives and eats based on people reading his work, I have to ask the question … have you considered buying your loved on a book by the acclaimed, award-winning author Marc Burrows?
Below are some options and links … I will get them posted on the very day you order them, sending them through the fastest possible Royal Mail option to your designated address. I can’t say fairer than that. It’s cutting me own throat. In the UK that should mean that any order made on or before Friday 20th December will get to you in time for Christmas. Outside of the UK, I’m afraid, is a moveable feast. I’ll do my absolute best, though.
All books come fully signed, and I can add a dedication if you like, just email me at marc@marcburrows.co.uk to let me know what you’d like it to say.
Please peruse my wares below.
NIRVANA: A detailed guide to the band that changed everything
My latest book is FINALLY in stock and I am SO proud of it, and also urge you to ignore the tiny, unspottable printing error on page 15.
This is an obsessively researched, and if I do say so myself, pretty definitive and, hopefully, entertainingly written guide to one of the most important musical forces there has ever been.
You can buy a special edition that includes a tote bag, an A5 print of Andrea C. White’s incredible cover art, a set of badges featuring the band as retro dolls and a set of stickers.
TALES FROM ROUNDWORLD
Available on the webstore for a short time only and produced in collaboration with the estate of Sir Terry Pratchett, this is a 38-page booklet featuring eight Terry Pratchett articles from the 60s and 70s, previously unpublished since they first appeared in newspapers, selected and annotated by award-winning Pratchett biographer Marc Burrows (me, obvs). The booklet includes the original newspaper version of the opening to The Carpet People, Terry's 1968 interview with Roald Dahl (thought lost for many years) and several brilliant comic pieces.
I still can’t believe I’ve been allowed to produce it, frankly.
THE LONDON BOYS: BOWIE, BOLAN AND THE 60s TEENAGE DREAM
I love this book. Rock n roll fanatics, mods, beat group wannabes, underground hippies, glam rock icons: David Bowie and Marc Bolan spent the first part of their careers following remarkably similar paths. From the day they met in 1965 as Davie Jones and Mark Feld, rock n roll wannabes painting their manager's office in London’s Denmark Street, they would remain friends and rivals, each watching closely and learning from the other. In the years before they launched an unbeatable run of era-defining glam rock masterpieces at the charts, they were both just another face on the scene, meeting for coffee in Soho, hanging out at happenings and jamming in parks. Here, they are our guides through the decade that changed everything, as the gloom of post-war London exploded into the technicolour dream of the swinging sixties, a revolution in music, fashion, art and sexuality. Part duel-biography, part social history, part musical celebration of an era, The London Boys follows the British youth culture explosion through the eyes of two remarkable young men on the front lines of history.

MANIC STREET PREACHERS: ALBUM BY ALBUM
Sourced from in-depth archival research, this is the most comprehensive and detailed work devoted to an iconic Welsh band yet compiled, featuring an essay on each album by a guest contributor, a foreword from Manics collaborator The Anchoress and a ridiculously detailed, immaculately researched timeline and discography.

OTHER PEOPLE’S STUFF
It is the season of good will, after all — here’s some goodies from some of my favourite people:
Melanie Clegg biographies
My darling better half/er upstairs/delight of my days etc etc. Melanie is an incredible historian and biographer. Her next book, Marie Antoinette - Teen Queen to Guillotine, will be something special, but in the meantime she’s got some crackers already available right here, and all on offer too!
Friends and the Golden Age of the Sitcom by Joanna Hagan
Pratchett fans may know Joanna from the brilliant Truth Shall Make Ye Fret Discworld podcast. She also knows a LOT about TV. I helped get this one commissioned and it turned out beautifully. Incredibly incisive writing. Signed editions available here.
Weirdos Comedy Christmas Charity Pantomime
London-based folks should not miss this. It was my honour to be in a Weirdos panto once, and it was one of the highlights of my career. Expect … blimey, I don’t know. You never know. It’ll be funny though. Really funny. And for a great cause! Tickets here!
Mitch Benn reads A Christmas Carol
Your friend and mine, big hearted comedy maestro Mitch narrates, literally, the best book ever written by anyone. He’s also doing it live in London until December 21.
VISCIOUSLY FUNNY BOOKS ABOUT MURDER BY KATY BRENT
Actual-best-seller and officially “that b*tch” Katy doesn’t need my help to flog her books, but honestly, her stuff is a hoot. Pre-order her latest and check out the back catalogue here.
But Doctor, I AM a Collection of Comic Strips by Paul Savage
Paul’s comic strips make me howl. Somehow he nails my sense of humour EXACTLY. This is his latest. Buy one!
Okay, I think that’s enough plugging. I am really sorry if I have forgotten you here. Also please check out the brilliant music of Laura Kidd, The Anchoress, Flesh Tetris and, ya know, Nirvana and the Manics.
I’ll be back with a proper newsletter, with all the usual gubbins at some point in the Merrynium.
Happy Hogswatch!
Marc
